Sports Massage Warrington
Whether you are training for a race, playing every week, or just trying to get back to full fitness after picking up an injury, sports massage helps you recover faster and move without hesitation. For many active clients it is the difference between managing an injury on and off for months and actually getting past it.
Sports massage at Warrington Pain Clinic is delivered as part of an Advanced Clinical Massage session rather than a separate treatment in its own right. Ema carries out a proper assessment first, working out exactly what is causing the problem, whether it is overload, poor movement patterns, old scar tissue, or something still healing. Techniques are drawn from the same clinical toolkit used across the clinic, including myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy and orthopaedic assessment, chosen and combined to suit your specific injury and stage of recovery.
The goal is not just easing today's tightness. It is understanding why the injury keeps happening and building a plan to stop it coming back. Every session ends with tailored advice on stretching, loading, and recovery so progress holds up between appointments.

Benefits of Sports Massage
🏃 Faster recovery between sessions
Working through tight muscle fibres and fascia helps clear waste products and improve circulation, so you are back training sooner rather than nursing the same tightness week after week.
🎯 Finds the actual cause
A niggle in one area is often caused by a weakness or restriction somewhere else entirely. Proper assessment means treating the source of the problem rather than just the spot that hurts.
💪 Reduces injury risk
Regular treatment keeps muscles and fascia supple and moving well, which lowers the chance of strains and overuse injuries building up over a training block.
🔄 Breaks down old scar tissue
Past injuries often heal with restrictions that quietly limit movement for years afterward. Targeted work can loosen these areas and restore range that has been missing without you realising it.
⚡ Improves performance
Better tissue quality and joint mobility translate directly into smoother, more efficient movement, whether that is stride length on a run or rotation through a golf swing.
🧠 Keeps you consistent
Niggles that get ignored tend to force time off further down the line. Staying on top of them with regular treatment keeps your training consistent instead of stopping and starting.
What to Expect
Every treatment begins with a brief orthopaedic assessment so your massage is fully tailored to your injury or goals on the day. No two treatments are the same.
⏱ Durations
60 or 90 minutes, from £50 and £70. Choose what suits your training schedule and recovery needs.
🛏 Position and comfort
You will be lying on a heated treatment bed with full support for whichever position suits the area being treated. A heated floor rug keeps you warm, and there is a cooling fan for warmer days. You are always well covered throughout.
👕 What to wear
Loose, comfortable clothing works best. If you are coming straight from training bring a change of clothes so you are comfortable during your session.
🌿 The environment
The treatment room is a calm, private space with natural bird song outside. You can also choose to have music played digitally during your session.
📋 After your treatment
Your care does not end when you leave. You will receive stretching guidance, loading advice and rehab exercises so progress holds up between sessions.
🚗 Parking and facilities
Free parking is available directly outside. We advise you to avoid a heavy meal and use the toilet before you arrive. Toilet facilities are available if needed. If you have any special requirements please get in touch and we will do our best to accommodate you.
⚠️ Recent injury or surgery? Please let us know when booking so Ema can plan your treatment around your recovery stage. If you are unsure whether massage is suitable right now, get in touch and we will happily advise you.
When Should You Get a Sports Massage?
Sports massage works differently depending on where you are in your training cycle. Timing it well makes a real difference to how much benefit you get from each session.
Pre Event
Lighter, stimulating work in the days before a race or competition to help muscles feel ready without leaving you sore or fatigued on the day.
Post Event
Deeper recovery work once you have had a day or two to settle. This is when clearing waste products and easing tightness has the biggest impact on how quickly you bounce back.
During a Training Block
Regular maintenance sessions through a heavy training period help catch small niggles before they turn into something that forces time off.
Injury Recovery
Whether you are coming back from a strain, old scar tissue, or a long standing niggle, treatment is built around your stage of healing and what your body is ready for.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is sports massage different from a relaxation massage?
Sports massage is assessment led and targets a specific injury, restriction or performance issue rather than general relaxation. Ema works out what is causing the problem first, then treats the cause rather than just easing the tightness on the surface.
Do I need to be an athlete to book a sports massage?
Not at all. Sports massage helps anyone who is active, whether that is weekly five a side, regular gym sessions, running, or simply an old injury from years of activity that has never fully resolved.
Will sports massage hurt?
Deeper work on a tight or injured area can feel intense at times, but it should never be unbearable. Ema works within your comfort level and will always check in with you during treatment.
How soon before an event should I book?
A few days before is usually best for lighter, pre event work. Deep tissue treatment right before competing can leave muscles feeling fatigued, so this timing matters more than people expect.
How many sessions will I need for an injury?
This depends entirely on the injury and how long it has been present. Some issues improve significantly in a few sessions, while longstanding problems tend to need a more gradual approach. Ema will give you a clearer picture after your first assessment.
Can sports massage help even if I do not have a specific injury?
Yes. Regular treatment during a training block helps maintain tissue quality and catch small issues early, often before you would even notice them affecting your performance.
"Ema has been a great find for me. Having had back pain for 10+ years I've tried everything, physio, chiropractor, osteopath, training and all the other things. Ema is super knowledgeable and gives me the confidence that wherever the niggle is each time, she can get to it and help ease up any pain, stiffness, swelling. I'd highly recommend the clinical advanced massage to target those horrid painful areas!"
